Orange Sponge Cake

Juicy, fruity, delicious – that’s how our Orange Sponge Cake tastes. The preparation is super easy and the cake is perfect when you need it in a hurry.

Orange Sponge Cake

Ingredients for Orange Sponge Cake:

250 g soft butter
130 g sugar
1 packet vanilla sugar
1 pinch of salt
4 eggs
280 g flour
3 tsp. baking powder
2 oranges
2 tbsp milk
some butter for the mould
150 g icing sugar


Preheat the oven to 350°F top/bottom heat. Beat the soft butter with the sugar, vanilla sugar and salt until fluffy. Gradually add the eggs.

Finely grate 1 orange and add the zest. Mix the flour with the baking powder and stir in alternately with the milk. Pour the batter into the loaf tin and smooth it down. Bake in the lower third for approx. 45 min.

Tear the second orange peel into thin strips with a zester. Put the strips aside for garnishing. Squeeze the oranges. Mix 3-4 tbsp of the juice with the icing sugar to make a thick glaze.

Slowly pour the rest of the juice over the cake while it is still warm until all the juice has been absorbed. Leave the cake to cool in the tin. Carefully remove from the tin and place on a cake plate. Garnish with icing and orange zest.
