Is ice cream cake just ice cream?
Ice cream cake is a type of dessert that consists of layers of ice cream and cake, often with additional ingredients such as frosting, chocolate or caramel sauce, and whipped cream. The layers of ice cream and cake are typically frozen together in a special pan, and the cake is served cold, directly from the freezer.
While ice cream cake does contain ice cream, it is not simply a block of ice cream. The layers of cake and frosting add structure and flavor to the dessert, and the additional ingredients (such as chocolate or caramel sauce) can add texture and richness.
Ice cream cake is typically made by layering ice cream, cake, and frosting in a special pan, then freezing the layers together until they are firm. Once the cake is frozen, it can be decorated with additional frosting, whipped cream, and other toppings before being served. Some ice cream cakes may also include layers of fruit, cookies, or other ingredients to add flavor and texture.
How far in advance should I make ice cream cake?
It is best to make an ice cream cake at least 4 hours in advance, or preferably the day before you plan to serve it. This will allow the ice cream cake to firm up in the freezer and make it easier to slice and serve.
If you are making an ice cream cake with layers, it is a good idea to assemble the cake and freeze it for at least 1 hour before adding the next layer. This will help to keep the layers from mixing together and ensure that the cake maintains its shape.

Overall, it is important to allow sufficient time for the ice cream cake to freeze before serving, as this will ensure that it holds its shape and is easy to slice and serve.
What are the crunchies in ice cream cake made of?
The crunchies in ice cream cake are typically made from a mixture of crushed cookies or graham crackers, sugar, and butter. The ingredients are mixed together and then pressed into a layer in the ice cream cake. The layer of crunchies adds a crunchy, sweet, and buttery texture to the cake.
To make crunchies for an ice cream cake, you will need the following ingredients:
- Cookies or graham crackers: You can use any type of cookies or graham crackers that you like. Some popular choices include chocolate wafers, graham crackers, or Oreos.
- Sugar: Sugar adds sweetness to the crunchies and helps to bind the ingredients together.
- Butter: Butter adds flavor and helps to hold the mixture together.
To make the crunchies, you will need to crush the cookies or graham crackers into fine crumbs, either using a food processor or by placing them in a plastic bag and crushing them with a rolling pin. Then, mix the crumbs with the sugar and melted butter until well combined. Press the mixture into a layer in the ice cream cake, and freeze the cake until the crunchies are firm.
You can customize the crunchies to your taste by using different types of cookies or adding additional ingredients, such as chocolate chips or nuts, to the mixture. Experiment with different flavors and textures to find the combination that you like best!
Ingredients for Ice Cream Cake
2 l chocolate ice cream
150 g caramel drops or Caramac
200 g butter biscuits
60 g butter
150 g mini marshmallows
150 g chocolate drops
chocolate syrup to taste
Remove the chocolate ice cream from the freezer and leave to thaw for 30 minutes. Put the biscuits in a bag and seal it. Now roll over them with a rolling pin or a bottle until the biscuits are crumbled. Alternatively, of course, you can do this in a chopper. Place the butter in a bowl in the microwave (or in a saucepan) on a low setting until liquid. Add the biscuits and mix everything together thoroughly. Pour the biscuit mixture into the springform pan and line it. This is best done with the back of a tablespoon. Chill the springform pan.
Break the Caramac into small pieces if necessary. Then place the ice cream in a large bowl and carefully stir with a wooden spoon until smooth. Now stir in generous halves of the marshmallows, the chocolate drops and the caramel drops or Caramac. Pour the mixture onto the base of the springform pan. Let everything freeze for about 1 hour.
Take out the ice cream bomb. Now rinse a knife under hot water and run it along the edge of the cake once so that the ring comes off nice and easily. Now decorate: mix all the remaining sweets in a bowl and spread them out from the centre. Now drizzle the chocolate syrup criss-cross over the decoration. Freeze the cake for at least 8 hours, preferably overnight.
