Ingredients for Rice Krispie Treats

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
One 300g bag of mini marshmallows plus one cup
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tsp fine sea salt
6 cups rice krispies
Flaked sea salt, optional


Grease an 8x8x2-inch pan with cooking spray or softened butter.

Place the butter in a large saucepan on the stove and melt over medium heat. Add the sweetened condensed milk and stir with a rubber spatula for about two minutes, until the butter and condensed milk are evenly combined (they will look separate when first stirred) and small bubbles form in the center of the mixture.

Add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Add the vanilla and salt and stir again.

From the heat, add the Rice Krispies and the remaining cup of marshmallows and stir.

Pour into prepared pan and press down lightly with plastic wrap (you don’t want to wrap the Krispie treats or they will lose their inherently soft and gooey texture). Sprinkle with sea salt flakes, if desired.

Let set up on the counter for at least an hour. Cut into 16 slices and serve. Leftovers (there will be none) can be stored in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days.
