Building a gingerbread house isn’t just great fun for kids! With us you will find the best recipe with simple step-by-step instructions.
Ingredients for Gingerbread House:
For the dough:
500 g honey
200 g sugar
200 g butter
2 tsp salt
4 tbsp water
1000 g flour
50 g cocoa powder
1 pkg. baking powder
For the icing:
1 lemon (juice of it)
250 g icing sugar
For the icing (glue):
3 pcs. Egg white
500 g icing sugar
Prepare the dough for the gingerbread house. Bring the butter, sugar, salt, water and honey to the boil in a saucepan while stirring. Mix in approx. 800g of the flour, the baking powder and the cocoa.
Then knead well and leave to rest overnight in cling film.
The next day, mix in the remaining flour and knead well. To make the house beautiful, it is best to mark out the sides and the roof on a piece of paper beforehand so that everything is even.
Roll out the dough and cut it out. (Don’t forget to cut out the roof, doors and windows too) Before baking, brush with milk and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes.
After baking, brush the dough with the icing to make it last longer. For the “glue”: Beat the egg whites until stiff and stir in the icing sugar until it is really firm.
Pour into a piping bag and place the walls of the houses on a firm surface and “glue” them together. Hold until the walls stand on their own or alternatively support the gingerbread house with objects.
