For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 16 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped

For the Lego-Inspired Decorations:

  • Lego bricks and mini-figures (cleaned and sanitized)
  • Edible gold paint or dust (for extra flair)
  • Edible glue or royal icing (to adhere the Lego pieces)

  1. Preparation:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour three round cake pans.
  2. Making the Chocolate Cake:
    • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
    • Gradually add the boiling water while mixing. The batter will be thin, but that’s perfect for a moist cake.
    • Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Creating the Chocolate Ganache:
    • Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
    • Place the finely chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
    • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for a minute. Then, gently whisk until smooth and glossy.
    • Let the ganache cool to room temperature before using.
  4. Assembling and Decorating:
    • Place one cake layer on your serving platter. Spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top.
    • Place another cake layer on top and repeat the process.
    • Place the final cake layer on top.
    • Use the remaining ganache to frost the entire cake. Ensure a smooth and even finish.
  5. Adding Lego-Inspired Decorations:
    • Carefully arrange cleaned and sanitized Lego bricks and mini-figures on the cake’s surface. Create a scene that reflects the couple’s personalities or interests.
    • For an elegant touch, paint some of the Lego elements with edible gold paint or dust.
    • Use edible glue or royal icing to securely attach the Lego pieces to the cake.

Pro Tips:

  • To create a cohesive look, choose Lego elements that are similar in color and style.
  • Plan the arrangement of the Lego pieces beforehand to ensure a balanced and visually appealing design.
  • If using Lego mini-figures, you can dress them up in tiny fondant wedding attire for added charm.
